Chapter 6

When she woke up on Saturday morning, Shannon was still in a foul mood and a little angry with herself. She hated that she could not put Keisha in her place. She walked to the kitchen and grabbed a bowl, a bottle of milk and a box of cereal. She then walked to the living room and sat down in front of the TV.

“Crap,” she cursed under her breath when she realized she had not carried a spoon. She made her way back to the kitchen and grabbed a spoon from the dish rack. She was about to sit down when she heard a knock on her door. ”Clearly the universe doesn’t want me to have breakfast,” she thought to herself as she walked to the door.

“Do you make a habit of opening the door without confirming who is on the other side?” Nathan asked when she opened the door. She forced a smile as he stepped forward and kissed her softly. “You look exhausted.”

“I just woke up,” she said. “You want to come in?”

He walked in and she closed the door behind him before she made her way back to the living room.

“Is everything okay with your phone because I have been calling and texting you,” he said as she sat down and poured her cereal into the bowl.

“I know,” she said. She then poured some milk and then took a bite.

“Is everything okay?” he asked as he looked at her. She shrugged and took another bite before he sat down next to her. She hated acting like the dramatic bitch but she had always been known to wear her feelings on her sleeve. She was about to take another bite when Nathan took the bowl away from her and placed it on the table. “Why don’t you talk to me? Tell me what’s on your mind.”

She looked at him for a long minute and tried to speak but she just couldn’t.

“Please talk to me, baby,” Nathan said again.

“Keisha came to the restaurant,” she finally said when she found her voice.

“I’m sorry, what?”

“You heard me. She sought me out and she found me,” she said before she reached for the bowl.

Nathan ran his fingers through his thick hair and sighed.

“I should have known,” he said in a soft voice as he reached into his inside jacket pocket. She watched him as he made a quick call. “Maxwell, hi…yeah I know...listen, I need a restraining order.”

“What are you doing?” Shannon asked as she looked at him. He placed a hand on the mouthpiece and looked at her.

“Protecting you,’ he said in a soft voice before he pulled his hand from the mouthpiece. “It’s for a girl, Shannon Leigh Michaels. Keisha has been harassing her…yes, the model.”

Shannon reached for her bowl and took another bite of her cereal as she listened to him making a deal with his lawyer. By the time he hang up, she was already done with her cereal. She put the bowl down on the table and looked at him.
